DEQ Storm Drain Marker Project

To kick off Landscape Architecture month, the student chapter is undertaking the DEQ Storm Drain Marker Project. Meet in the Quad at 9 AM on Sunday, April 1st. They, along with volunteers, will be placing DEQ stormwater medallions on storm drains. Contact Josh Brooks, jbroo15@tigers.lsu.edu, for further information.

Planning is under way for landscape architects, students, and related professionals to again take to the streets, parks, and plazas to engage the public in conversations about the profession. On 04.26.12, we will all publicly celebrate Frederick Law Olmsted’s birthday. By once again taking to the streets from coast to coast, volunteers will tell the public why their profession matters, just as they did on 08.17.11.

LA Month – School Presentations

During Landscape Architecture month, a couple presentations about the profession were given by local landscape architects at schools in Baton Rouge.

Brian Goad of Reich Associates spoke at 3 architecture classes at Catholic High School. The school put a small write-up about it on their website here.

Jenny Harbourt, also of Reich Associates, visited Most Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and gave a presentation to five year-olds on what landscape architecture is. She also passed around plants for them to touch, and did a drawing activity with them. See a few pictures from the day below:

LA Month – Park du Lafayette

As part of Landscape Architecture Month, landscape architects in Lafayette, led by Haley Blakeman, are designing and implementing renovations for a small park there called Park du Lafayette. A community work day to paint the walls, benches, fountain, and stage is planned for May 14th. A poster showing the rendered site plan was displayed at the park during Festival Internationale.
